Monkey business ?

Following hot on yesterday’s gripe yesterday’s post about Spain wanting to grant human rights to great apes, the Times is now reporting that monkeys can apparently speak. According to British scientists, MONKEYS are able to string together a simple “sentence”, according to research that offers the first evidence that animals might be capable of a key feature of language.

I guess that bolsters their case for human rights no end.

Monkey business? - If it weren’t so tragic it might just be funny!

May 17, 2006

Great Ape

The “El Mundo” newspaper is reporting (25th April 2006) that Spain’s ruling socialist party is considering proposals to grant Human Rights to all “great apes” which include humans, bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas and orang-utans. The proposal is scheduled to be discussed in parliament at the end of May. After New Zealand, Spain would be the second country to grant special rights to apes.

This would be funny stuff if it weren’t so serious - it is scandalous that a country like Spain would grant rights to apes, “thus giving them more rights than unborn human embryos”, according to the archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela, Fernando Sebastián.

Whacked sense of justice I say, for a country that “boasted” 85,000 abortions in 2004, and soaring. Wikinews article here.

You say it girl!

Telegraph Newspaper online
Drinking coffee ‘is good for the heart’ - Some dude[ess] at the Telegraph newspaper seems to think that the black stuff is actually good for something beside keeping your shutters open.

“One to three cups of coffee a day may protect people from heart disease and strokes, according to research which contradicts numerous studies that have suggested that coffee is bad for you.”

Words of wisdom I say.

Megashift-MegaBomb (?) MegaCanaWorms (?)

Mega Whoawee - WorldNetDaily

Just finished reading James Rutz’Megashift“. Boy does this book open “cans a worms”! Comments flying around in the blogosphere all over the place and everyone seems to be taking flack! Not that this book “open” cans of worms, but rather Jim Rutz does strike a nerve with many - he seems to be speaking into an issue that is in fact crucial but that, I think is camouflaged and diluted by many with too much of a focus on external methods, shapes, formats and “packaging”. To use an analogy that a friend once told me, there seems to be a lot of focus on the franchise, not enough on the product. [Read more]

The Personal MBA

This is a revolutionary idea. According to the founder: “The Personal MBA (PMBA) is an experiment in educational entrepreneurism. This manifesto will show you how to substantially increase your knowledge of business on your own time and with little cost, all without setting foot inside a classroom. The PMBA is more flexible than a traditional MBA program, doesn’t involve going into massive debt, and won’t interrupt your income stream for two years. Just set aside some dedicated reading time, pick up a good book, learn as much as you can, and go out and make great things happen.”

This has wide applications in many other fields. [Read more]
