Carl, I am NO expert (Believe me) but my switch to Ubuntu linux was as pain free as any windows installation I have ever done. All I did was download the CD (Its a LiveCD so you get to boot up from it, and play with it for as long as you want without having to install to disk) and follow the instructions! I use a Sony Vaio FX601 laptop (About three years old) and it loves Ubuntu Linux - I got rid of Windows XP altogether and just use Linux. My windows setup was just constantly grinding to a halt.

I have managed to network it without any probs at work, I receive my Wi-Fi OK, I use its "OpenOffice" suite open and use Word/Excel docs and then save them back to Word/Excel.

BTW, my brother's office was gutted by a fire recently and smoke damage ruined his PCs (Its OK - Insurance claim replaced everything) - he gave me one to see if could do something with it. Does it work with windows? - NOPE! Does it work with Linux ? - YOU BET!

You may want to check out my del.icio.us links on this:

Be blessed by the penguin!

Couple of Qs. Did you do a second OS or is it the primary? Do you have a link to a tute on this? Did you have any problems with drivers?

I have a Toshiba that I tried to do a disk restore but as it turns out the original restore disks are corrupt and they want $40 for replacements. (not) I was thinking of trying this but was afraid I would never be able to network again.
