Dicen… (They Say)

The following poem (In Spanish) was written by my good friend Pastor Angel Nava from La Paz, Mexico, written during times of seeking the Lord as his world was rocked and shaken by Jesus. It is the result of deep internal struggles between truth and his experience, theology and presence, where in the midst of desperation, in his own words…..”hasta poeta me volvi” (I even became a poet). I have translated the poem into English at the end so that you can get an idea of what was turning within him. It is good!  These same words have turned often within me, indeed, they are still turning…..

Dicen…

______________

They say…

They say… that when you speak one can hear your voice
They say…that one can see the throne of your majesty
They say…that even the weight of your glory can be felt
that it is possible to live in your presence

They say… that prayer can be extended so that it does not end
They say…that one does not even feel the passage of time
They say…that in that secret place you want to reveal,
the deepest things of your heart

They say…that one can reach the third heaven
They say…that from there one can admire the heavenlies
They say…that one can hear the unspeakable,
that when you come back, nothing can ever be the same again

I do not want to hear any more the things that others say,
because hearing them torments my heart.

It is my pain, my cry and my prayer:
Lord, I want to be able to say so myself
