Dispossessing the Canaanites

Yesterday’s meeting began as normal with a battle against technological gremlins that always seem to affect our projector system, or the laptop or what have you. Once that was sorted we managed to get started with a repertoire of three guitarists! Normally, Angel leads the worship on his guitar, but yesterday saw Martin, of U-Turn fame, and my brother in law Paul also joining in with their guitars! Man there is potential there I tell you. More Lord!

Speaking from Romans 8, Diego shared a good line on not allowing or entertaining any thoughts that would come to tread us down, or to condemn us, or any of our brethren. Just reading that passage of scripture was powerful stuff.

Fatima’s mother also got up, and at age 83 shared two testimonies of how the Lord had healed her some time ago when she lost her speech and could not move her arm for a while, and later on the Lord healed her from kidney cancer. Just seeing a veteran of the faith like her inspires! Man, I want to have that faith if and when I ever reach that age.

I went on to talk from Deuteronomy 7:1-3 where we read that the promised land was given to the Israelites but they had to dispossess the seven original nations that lived there. The number seven there speaks of a totality of nations rather than a literal number. Each of those nations prophetically represents a stronghold or an issue that we struggle with in our life in Christ, that may prevent us from eating the produce of the land (Joshua 5:10-12) which in our case speaks of supernatural fruit.

Many of these nations (issues) are in fact coping mechanisms that we have erected in order to protect our hearts from being wounded. As an emotional crutch we lean on them in order to alleviate the pain arising from a wound. For example, the Hittites were the “Children of Heth”, and “Heth” comes from a root Hebrew word meaning “Fear”. So there you have it, one of the nations that we need to dispossess is fear, for it will keep us from the supernatural fruit of the promised land. Fear is a mechanism that we use in order to avoid getting into situations were we can be wounded - only there are certain levels of healthy fear, such as a fear of walking on the edge of a cliff, and there are unhealthy and amplified fears that have been projected to such an extreme level in our lives where some people cannot even look another person in the eye when they speak to them.

There are realms of authority in the Spirit and places of dominion that up to now have been occupied and controlled by the inhabitants of the land:

  • Fear
  • Lack of wisdom
  • Pride / Haughtiness / Pride of life
  • Reliance on your natural senses (only)
  • Lack of walls/boundaries
  • Idolatry
  • Treading down others

God is calling us to a place where He wants us to have truth (The Living and Manifest Presence of Jesus) in the inward parts (Psalm 51:6) – for this to happen the nations have to go. Lets get cleaned up and healed on the inside shall we? Who’s up for a Sozo?
