Quentin Miller: Prophetic workshop

We drove Quentin to Seville, Spain yesterday where he will be speaking at another church in his on-the-road one month Spainish tour. We are sorry to see him go, but excited and expectant at what Father God is doing here, and there. We still have the post-encounter-with-Jesus buzz here. It is awesome.

Quentin’s fourth session was a prophetic workshop where he shared on creating a safe environment for the releasing of, and training in, the prophetic among God’s people. The ultimate aim however, was for the prophetic to leave the church walls and be used naturally by the church to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory (goodness) of God as the waters cover the sea.

Several guidelines were shared that help us see whether the prophetic is really the voice of Father on our vocal chords:

1. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty (cite). God’s commands are not grievous (cite) so God will not bring a word that causes us to be under a heavy thing. His yoke really is easy and his burden really is light (cite). If we are receiving a word that is heavy or condemnatory, then these verses would make it fall outside the parameters of God’s nature here.

2. He who prophesies speaks edification, exhortation and comfort to men (1 Cor. 14:3). New covenant prophesy serves within this tight parameter. The word received and given needs to speak:

  • a) Edification. This comes from a root word meaning “architecture”. It is all about speaking to the structures plumbing and foundational makeup of people’s inner workings. It is all about Jesus getting inside the person’s “Wall” to minister His love to the lonely hurting person that lives on the inside. It is all about calling out the destiny in people.
  • b) Exhortation. This word means “to choose”. It is like when we were chosen to play for someone’s team when we were little. God is saying “I want you to be on my team! Come work with me. I think you are awesome and I ant you on my team!”
  • c) Comfort. These are words that put at rest, or peace. Words that speak of a safe place.

3. Look for the gold. Do not focus on the dirt, focus on the gold. In a recent CNN documentary it was stated that diamond miners have to shift 5 tonnes of dirt for every 1 carat diamond they find! Yet none of them would say, man! Look at this dirt! There is so much dirt here! That is passion! We need to look for the diamonds that God has placed there!

We then had a time of calling out this stuff in people. By using a cool tool, we all prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to bring to our hearts and minds a bible character that we could identify with. Then when someone said what bible character they identified with we all prayed and then called out the attributes of that person’s destiny that were in line with the bible character’s personality etc. This was a good prophetic primer for those uninitiated in the prophetic and something that we will be following up on here.

For the testimony [evidence] of Jesus is the spirit [breath] of prophecy. (Rev. 19:10b – author’s comments)
