The two excuses of unbelief

April 1, 2007 by John Baw

The two responses excuses of unbelief:

  • “It’s been done before”
  • “It’s never been done before”

Taking inspiration from this post (that deals with business ideas), I propose that unbelief will always function at these two levels to try to dilute what God is doing NOW.

One heart response says: “been there…done that”
The other says: “No one’s been there….or done that.”

The first is typical of many who experienced renewal/revival as a passing thing - “Oh we had revival in our church some years ago….it was cute….in a Barney meets Winney the Pooh, lets-go-find-us-some-honey, sort of way…..but now we have moved on…..

The second only looks at history, and defines current and future realities from past experiences.  For them God is not a God of “Behold I will do a new thing“.
