When a frog turns out to be a prince

I stumbled upon this video of Paul Potts, a contestant in one of Great Britain’s talent TV shows. This video shows Paul, a shy and unassuming mobile phone salesman (think ragamuffin) that turns up at the contest and when asked what he was going to do he said, “to sing opera” - generating dismissive looks from the usually unscrupulous panel.

By day I sell mobile phones….my dream is to spend my life doing what I feel that I was born to be.

This guy then proceeds to deliver a goose-bump producing, hair-raising, lump-in-the-throat rendition that makes the crowd go absolutely balistic! You can actually see how he takes the breath away of the lady on the panel. Those who by their looks tried to dismiss him then said things like: “A frog that turned out to be a prince”; “a little gem”; “a lump of coal that will turn out to be a diamond”.

For me the video is a prophetic snapshot. Finding pure gold in the most unlikely place.

Sometimes, art approaches true worship.
