Quick tour of the prayer room at our 24/7 week of prayer in Gibraltar

The prayer room is small, but there is a great feeling there.  For me this has been a time of soaking, seeking the Lord’s face, and getting filled up with Him.  Five churches are getting together for this time of prayer, with several intercessors traveling from afar (even Africa) to join us.

OK I spoke too soon - this MUST be even wierder!

January 27, 2008

From the "is-this-for-real?" department:  Farmer conceals a castle behind bales of hay

"We moved into the house on Harry’s first birthday, so for the first few years of his life he grew up looking at straw out of the windows.

"We thought it would be a boring view, but, in fact, many birds nested in the straw and feasted on the worms. We had several families of robins and even a duck made a nest and hatched 13 ducklings on top of the bales.

"What we had anticipated being a very uninteresting view out of our windows turned out to be a fascinating garden with all sorts of natural visitors."

WOW, if this guy succeeds in having his castle declared legal, think about the implications.  Planning inspectors are going to be looking into every straw bale in the country.  What’s next?  Dung-covered churches?  Then again, we are searching for premises for our church!

The Telegraph is reporting a new phenomenon in crime:

Gangs are said to sneak the dwarves into the luggage hold, hidden inside baggage……….Then, once the journey has begun, the stowaways are free to rifle through the bags of other passengers without fear of being apprehended.

Link to article.

This is just plain bizzare.  It certainly gives a new meaning to, "Hi ho, Hi ho, its off to work we go."  Let me now alone please, I am laughing so hard I think I just cracked  rib!

Live blogging from the start of the Gibraltar 24/7 week of prayer

January 24, 2008

(Editor’s note:  If you are getting this post via email or via an rss feed, please click here to watch the video clip)

Live blogging from the start of the Gibraltar 24/7 week of prayer.  Five churches have partnered in Gibraltar to have a week long 24/7 house of Prayer.  We are excited about what the Lord is going to do in and though this time of seeking an encounter with the king!

At the moment, Bethel Christian Fellowship is leading worship in the conference room beside the prayer room.  The Spirit is now starting to flow, and I feel that "swelling" in my heart that beckons me to draw nearer and pour out love on the One who is SO worthy to receive it!  We are stuck singing "let it rain."

Getting things done

January 17, 2008

I have taken the plunge and bought David Allen’s "Getting Things Done."  After reading all the rage about this book, including countless testimonials on how this organizational system has transformed people’s lives, I succumbed to the herd mentality, got my own copy, and started reading the book last night.  I have covered the first chapter, which essentially prepares the ground for the productivity management system and gives an overview of how stressed we are and how much we need this book.  What I have read actually makes sense, and whereas I do not know whether the whole productivity management system will simply be a convoluted and complicated system that ends-up being unmanageable, I think that at the very least it will give me a handle on the many areas of my life that need input from me:

  • Personal life - with a baby on its way (No. 3 !) we have many practical things that need doing before the due date in late June.
  • Work - I have recently changed jobs within my own organization, and there is a tonne of stuff that needs doing.  Apart from learning the ropes of the Gibraltar Land Registry, we are scheduled to take-on a huge amount of business this year.
  • Work - I am working towards gaining professional membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and at the moment I am working flat-out to cover all the necessary competencies required, and will need to complete a Critical Analysis (Thesis) before I for a peer-review-type of interview.
  • Church - We are looking at various projects for Living Waters for this year.

Black Pentecostal Discussion

January 9, 2008

In Black Pentecostal Discussion, my friend Carl (now ubber-on-fire-church-planter) of The Mission, South Florida fame posts an interesting video that highlights Pentecostalism as high-octane Evangelical faith on steroids in the context of the poor. It is an enlightening video. I do not know whether I agree with the speaker’s position that the MOST important thing in Pentecostalism is the poor, and that voting patterns would be affected by candidate’s position regarding helping the poor, as I tend to believe that the paramount issue in Pentecostalism is the Presence of Jesus being manifest. Helping the poor, in my opinion, is a FRUIT that comes from His Presence. Hop over to the Revival Blog and check it out join the debate!

Iris Ministries: His Presence in the fire

January 7, 2008

The cool wind of the dark night blustered against our faces, and most of us were wrapped up snugly with jackets, sweaters, blankets and wool hats. We were gathered up on a little hill, and so felt exposed to the wind all the more, but we felt especially secure. It was the coziest, safest spot on our main Iris base in Pemba, and all who were there didn’t want to be anywhere else just then. We considered it our hiding place in Jesus because it was our new prayer house built as a gift from Bethel Church in Redding, California. Our beautiful house had a round, thatched African-style roof on wood pillars, a plain cement floor and a short wall, and then nothing but a panoramic view of Pemba and the ocean by day, and the mysteries of the stars and town lights by night. A freshly-planted garden and winding walkways adorned our wonderful gathering place for prayer, worship and warfare, both for a few solitary souls or for a whole intense army of God-lovers crying out to Him with all their hearts.
