I know this is going to sound really weird, and crazy
I know this is going to sound really weird, and crazy, but it is my bog so I am just going to say it anyway. For years I have had an obsession with graduation rings. Although these are not very common in Europe, it is normal for someone to wear a graduation ring in the US of A after they have completed a degree.
For quite some time I have had dreams and visions of me wearing such a ring. I even asked a prophet about it and he said that it spoke about covenant. It is becoming close to an obsession for me, so much so that I have even thought about getting myself one and have not done so only because a part of me thinks it would be really corny.
Can anyone help me out on this one? Shed some light? What’s a guy in Gibraltar to do about this “urge”? Any comments?

It’s much more common for Americans to have a High School ring rather than a college one, and I’ve never seen anyone wear a post-graduate ring. I’m just the opposite of you, I suppose, in this regard, I didn’t want a High School ring, nor a college ring, nor a Bible College ring, and I’ve never regretted not purchasing any of them.
If only I knew I’d read this post one day, I could have bought them then to give them to you now. Hindsight is truly 20/20!

Added on April 29th, 2008 at 2:24 pmThe most common post graduate college rings are from the elite universities and military academies.
What I hear you saying is more to do with relationship, lineage, and ownership. I immediately thought of Joseph, “Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck.” and the prodigal, “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.”
I think if you ask, He will give you the design and the inscription.

Added on April 30th, 2008 at 11:49 amHey John,
My first thought is the parable of parables, the parable of the Father, or as some prefer, the parable of the prodigal son. (Same as Carl)
In the midst of all Father’s love lavishness in that parable, he gives the returning son the family ring - restoring to him all of the stature, power, and authority of the family name. We’re not just loved back into our Father’s arms, we’re also restored back into spiritual authority. The returning son could not only walk with his head held high in His Father’s house, but with that ring he could do so in the town, and he could use the family’s authority in that town too for the sake of the family’s business.
Romans 8:19 is very much on my heart at the moment with respect to end-times revival.

Added on April 30th, 2008 at 2:40 pmJohn, I still wear my college/university ring. My Dad wore his from George Washington University until he died. I’ve certainly heard weirder things. I think rings are reminders & evidence of deeper things…like marriage. I say GO for it! What is it you want on your “hand” & to be “reminded” of, what “authority” do you want to “impart” to others? Mine is from a Medical University & I have always had a heart for healing, physical & particularly emotional. I’d love to hear what ring you decided on. Perhaps not the ladies’ with diamonds haha! blessings from the other side of the pond. Amelia

“Hey John,
My idea is that if it is on your heart, and your heart is given to God, then
let it be a God thing, and don’t second guess it. Rings are awesome in the
Word, but you shouldn’t have to justify it.
To me it speaks of accomplishment and completion……”
